Anne and Alain (over from the UK) stayed a couple of nights with us and as well as celebrating Anne and my birthdays, we were able to walk along and have a picnic lunch at the top of, the famous Cliffs of Moher together.
The Cliffs of Moher are spectacular sea-cliffs situated in County Clare along the Wild Atlantic Way
The Lonely Planet Guide book tells us that the Cliffs of Moher are...
One of Ireland’s most famous sights, the Cliffs of Moher are entirely vertical and the cliff edge is abrupt. On a clear day the views are tremendous, with the Aran Islands etched on the waters of Galway Bay. From the cliff edge you can just hear the booming far below as the waves crash and gnaw at the soft shale and sandstone.
With a due-west exposure, sunset is the best time to visit
Well, we weren’t there at sunset but we did arrive around 10 in the morning and the sky was brilliantly blue, the temperature was a mild 20 or so degrees (eventually)! Following a great tip from Siobhan, one of Alan’s English Teacher class-mates who comes from Cork, we parked up on a farm (the farmer was running a car park) and joined The Cliffs of Moher Hiking Trail midway for our experience of these amazing sea cliffs. Initially we practically had the trail to ourselves although as we walked along toward the Visitors Centre the number of people increased as the Instagram Generation came to take their selfies on the beautiful cliffs.
The pictures below tell the story including us picnicking along the trail and enjoying a rare warm day and the stunning vista.

It was fabulous Anne - and you’re right - cliff walks are rather special - I also enjoy them - and it doesn’t even matter what the weather is...
That was a wonderful day out, a cliff walk is my happy place!
